My wife practiced yoga throughout her pregnancy and loved the time she spent relaxing her body and getting in touch with her baby. Yoga is one of the best ways for expecting moms to stay active without posing any risk to her body or the baby. So many workouts and exercises are too demanding on the body especially when you are with child, which is why yoga is something that every mom should do both during the pregnancy and after.

This book is well written with practical advice and a small selection of poses designed for specific trimesters. The directions for each pose are clear and easy to follow. Even though not all poses have photographs, the directions are so well written that it is very clear what you should be doing. This book is a great addition, especially considering the awesome price, for any expecting mom wanting to stay active and have an easier, more enjoyable delivery.

It's so wonderful that people are finally realizing the benefits of yoga for mom and baby. Thank you for making this book and the fantastic information available for anyone who is interested!

Ok, so it might seem a bit odd to read a guy's opinion on prenatal yoga. After all, how am I going to be able to relate to the issues that a woman goes through during pregnancy?

Simple answer - I'm not.

However, given that I've been involved in the exercise and fitness game in some fashion or another for some 20+ years, I can speak to the efficacy of the program.

To be brutally honest, while I'm a fan of what yoga can do for the body, in normal circumstances, I believe it should only be a part of a more well-rounded, overall program that would include strength training and cardiovascular conditioning. Yoga should be done for that flexibility and mobility aspects, as well as it being low/no-impact.

That's what makes this program such a good idea - pregnant women, unless they stay active, end up having problems with mobility in general. This program can alleviate that. Add to that the program will be a good way of getting some movement and physical activity in, whilst not being overly complicated nor taking up too much recovery time.

Add that to the fact that the program (the 1st trimester prescription, IMO) is a good/smart one to continue after a woman has her child, and you've got a good product here.

Recommended.
I bought this book after a good friend of mine told me that she was experiencing pregnancy-related back pain. I'm not an expert on the topic, but I already knew that prenatal yoga was a good excercise for pregnant women. She has not put it down and practices almost daily. She says that doing yoga has made such a difference, that she want to do it everyday.

Each pose is broken down step-by-step and has a photo to exemplify how it should be executed. I also like that it is divided by early (1st trimester), mid (2nd trimester), and late (3rd trimester) pregnancy and the directions are very clear.

There is also a section on doing yoga and meditation after the birth. I agree, yoga and meditation should be life-long practices, not just for pregnancy. A great gift for any woman that is expecting.
